Admission and College Counseling Institute (ACCI)

ACCI is held each summer, typically for a week in late July. Designed for high school counselors and new college admission professionals, the Institute consists of both joint and separate higher education and secondary sessions. Joint sessions include student application case studies and a mock college fair. Several evening activities provide opportunities for college admission representatives, high school counselors, and resident faculty to visit informally. The goal for college participants is to prepare new admission counselors for the range of experiences they will encounter as university representatives. All participants should leave with an understanding of the importance of their role in the lives of prospective college students and will receive tools to help them on the job.

ACCI 2012 will be held July 16 - 19, 2012, on the Texas Christian University campus in Fort Worth. Learn more by visiting the College Board's ACCI website.  Information for ACCI Participants.

***TACAC and the College Board are seeking proposals for a host campus for the annual Admission and College Counseling Institution for a new three-cycle (2013-2015). If your institution would like to make this commitment to the profession and its members, please carefully review the Call for Host Institutions  for expectations.  If interested, you are encouraged to complete the ACCI Host Institution Application in its entirety.

Comments from Past Attendees

ACCI 2011 Helped provide me with the information, tools & resources I needed for my first year as a secondary counselor.  The information I received from ACCI 2011 has been a true lifesaver for me throughout the entire year.  I am constantly pulling out my binder & going over the information presented.  I recommend any first year high school counselor attend ACCI & any counselor that needs a refresher.  I know I will be going back in a few years to get refreshed on the latest information ACCI has to offer.  - Brittney Brockenbush, Secondary Counselor, LexingtonISD, 2011 ACCI Participant

ACCI 2011 helped to ground me in the basic foundations of being an admission counselor. I had not even started working as a counselor before attending ACCI so this conference was a great way to start!  -Rebecca Stich, Undergraduate Admission Counselor, University of Dallas

ACCI was some of the best training I have received! I learned so much. All of the presenters were outstanding and every session included information relevant to my current job. I would highly recommend ACCI to anyone who handles college admissions planning in the high school setting. - Cindi Cooley, Counselor, Woodville High School

I could never have imagined at the time just how invaluable the relationships I formed while at ACCI would be during my first travel season.  ACCI not only gave me a great knowledge foundation as a new counselor, but also provided me with about 30 instant friends that I was able to keep in touch with and lean on while getting the hand of being on the road for the first time.  -Megan McPherson, Freshman Admissions Counselor, The University of Houston

Attending the ACCI conference in 2010 allowed me to meet other professionals in the college admissions field.  The presentations were professional, up to date and very informative. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the practical information that I came away with helps my students on a daily basis.  The network that I was able to tap into while at the ACCI will be beneficial for the future. I was very tentative about attending the ACCI conference last July as an independent college admissions counselor.  But the atmosphere, could not have been more welcoming and enthusiastic.  TACAC and College Board work together to give very professional and up to date information in the college admission process.  Everyone attending was willing to share their experiences and knowledge to help you grow professionally.  From the workshops to the college visits to the mixers -- are something you don't want to miss. - Kathy Rose, College Catalyst
