Camp College 2017


Camp College is a college preparation program aimed to prepare students from across the state of Texas for the college application process. Approximately 220 rising high school seniors are invited to attend one of our 3 Camp College programs. During the program, students will:

  • receive assistance identifying schools which match their interests and needs
  • write an application essay and create a resume
  • navigate the financial aid process
  • attend a college fair
  • connect with college counseling professionals who will provide valuable tips and insight into the application process

Volunteers from colleges, universities, community based organizations, and high schools across the state serve as mentors to Camp College students.


Event Details:

Camp College 2018 will be held June 11-13, 2018, at Lamar University in Beaumont.  Students who participate in this program will spend three-days, two- nights at Lamar University with all-expenses paid. Students who attend will stay in college dorms, eat in a dining hall, and experience campus life at Lamar University. Transportation will be provided for students in the Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston areas to Lamar University.

Camp College Minis will be held June 9, 2018 at University of Texas at Tyler and June 16, 2018 at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Harlingen. Students who participate in the minis will have breakfast and lunch provided during the one day admissions process workshop. Students will need to provide their own transportation to these events. Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from these events.

Please note: Only students who are accepted to the program, complete the online RSVP, and return the student packet may attend Camp College.Student may only apply to 1 Camp College program.


Mentors are needed to help the students understand the college-going process. As a mentor, you will stay in the dorm with the students and help them complete the Camp College curriculum.  The Camp College committee seeks a diverse group of mentors from a variety of educational institutions. For those participating in Camp College hosted by Lamar, training will be provided before the program on June 10th to help mentors serve the needs of their Camp College students. Housing will be provided by Lamar for mentors. For those participating at the Camp College Mini programs in Tyler and Harlingen housing will not be provided. Training will be provided the night before each Camp College Mini.
