Admission and College Counseling Institute (ACCI)
ACCI is a four-day, in-residence professional development experience where secondary and higher education professionals can build the skills needed to perform their daily jobs. Designed for high school counselors and new college admission professionals, this residential program is TACAC's most comprehensive professional development experience. ACCI consists of both joint and separate higher education and secondary sessions. Several evening activities provide opportunities for college admission representatives, high school counselors, and resident faculty to visit informally. The goal for college participants is to prepare new admission counselors for the range of experiences they will encounter as university representatives. All participants should leave with an understanding of the importance of their role in the lives of prospective college students and will receive tools to help them on the job.
ACCI 2017 will be held at the University of Houston July 24 - 27, 2017. Register now or contact Diana McAfee if you wish to reserve a spot for a staff member TBD.
Resident Fee $675 (staying on the University of Houston campus) Commuter Fee $575 (Houston area participants only, please) Rates increase by $75 on July 1st.
Chair: Rob Mooring, St Agnes Academy
"I am an ACCI alum twice over having participated in both the higher education track as well as the secondary track. Within the ever-changing field of college admission counseling, ACCI has not only been pivotal in creating, expanding and strengthening the breadth and depth of my knowledge, resources, and professional network but in also shaping my career. It has moved me beyond my day-to-day comfort zone known as my office and inspired me to give back to Texas ACAC which sponsors ACCI. I am now confidently sharing my gifts in servant leadership as the Chair of the Human Relations Committee and Coordinator for the TACAC Fellows Program. What was once a hope to give back what was given to me through ACCI has now become my reality and mission. I believe that you cannot give what you first do not have… so what are you waiting for?! Start with ACCI. Give yourself that opportunity and see where it leads you. ACCI is not the answer to the question, "What next?" but rather inspires it…over and over again." -Monica Lopez, College Counselor, Episcopal High School-Houston
"Attending ACCI in 2012 was beneficial for me as a new counselor for many reasons. I gained professional knowledge, was able to network with other professionals, and made many new friends that I have since stayed in contact with. What I loved most was that the people that I met and worked with at ACCI all had a common goal—to learn and to enhance our abilities in the admissions field. ACCI also aided in making my first travel season more functional and comfortable, since I had learned some do’s and don’ts as well as made friends in the admissions field that would soon travel with me!" -April Cano, Transfer Admissions Counselor, Sam Houston State University
"ACCI 2013 provided quality professional development for new admission counselors. By providing best practices, new counselors learn tips on how to present to high school students, travel planning, and territory management. After completing the Institute, I felt better equipped to be a a successful recruiter and counselor. Furthermore, when on the road during travel season, it was nice to see some of the friends and contacts I had met." -Leora Rockowitz, St. Edward's University
“ACCI 2013 provided me with a strong foundation going into my first year as a college advisor. More importantly, it provided me with mentors who have throughout the year, continued to provide me with resources to make me more productive for my students.” -Sukdeep Saur, Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy - Houston ISD
