ACCI Faculty Spotlight - Kimberly Morris

Today is the last day to apply for ACCI Faculty, and we are featuring Kimberly Morris from Stephen F. Austin State University! She has been in admissions for 15 years. She is the currently Associate Director of Admissions.

In 2017, Kimberly was invited to present a single session, which prompted her to re-apply as faculty where she fully participated in 2018.

Kimberly had always heard great things about ACCI from colleagues that attended, but felt that ACCI was an equally wonderful experience on the operations side as well. As a regional currently located in Houston, she loved the feel of being on a university campus, and the energy that comes from knowledge sharing with other seasoned professionals and those new to their roles. University of Houston was a great host in 2018, and she expects that Baylor will not disappoint in 2019!

Kimberly was busy at ACCI in 2018! In addition to facilitating the case studies with a blend of high school and college reps, she conducted a session on mentoring and networking, and served on a panel with her college peers for high school counselors to ask questions on a variety of topics. There was also a capstone project for recommendation letter writing (for the secondary side) or elevator speeches (on the college side) at the end.

Reflecting on her ACCI experiences, Kimberly feels like she really grew as a professional. "I have never been a conference presenter before, but knew that I wanted to start contributing to the profession given all of my experience. I felt reinvigorated after the conference. It affirmed some of the things my institution was already doing, and reminded me to circle back on some practices that could be improved upon. Although my role was to serve as faculty, I still feel as though I got a lot out of the event, and it was well worth the time away from my regular duties."

Kimberly's advice is to keep applying! She wasn’t selected until the second time she applied for faculty, so don’t get discouraged if the same happens to you.
