Meet the Bloggers

The TACAC blog is brought to you by the Communications Committee. As a volunteer organization, TACAC’s programs and committees are all run by college admission and college counseling professionals. The TACAC blog team represents a wonderful cross-section of our membership and they'll bring you great information about TACAC and the field of college admission counseling throughout the year.

Vicki Brooks
Current job: College Counselor
Institution: Uplift Williams Preparatory
Your best moment from the last year: When one of my students from inner-city Dallas came into the office to tell me she’d been matched through Questbridge.  Seeing her walk in the door, almost in tears, swarmed by her peers, made the necessity of my job very apparent.  Without a college counselor, she wouldn’t have known to apply to Questbridge, and might not be headed to an amazing (and ultra-competitive) school in the fall.
What you're excited about for the coming year: Using everything I learned during my first year of college counseling to better serve my students.
Hobby/something not many people know about you: I love listening to podcasts and audiobooks.  If you haven’t heard Malcom Gladwell’s Revisionist History, check out episodes 4-6, beginning with Carlos Doesn’t Remember.  He delves into the cost and access of higher education – there’s no better way to spend your commute, if you have one!

Stephanie Funderburg
Current job: Recruiter
Institution: San Jacinto College
Best book I’ve read lately: I just finished reading A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas and want to cry because I have to wait another year for the 3rd book!
What I’m excited about for the coming year: This will be my 2nd year in Recruiting and I’m really excited to build on the success of last year. I’ve got so many ideas I’m hoping to implement.
Something not many people know about me: There’s a reason my nickname in high school was Belle. I’m a huge bookworm and have a love for British television series! I also love taking photos of my little boy who turned a year old in May.

Phoebe Kingsak
Current job: Assistant Director of Admissions
Institution: NYU
Best book I’ve read lately: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
What I’m excited about for the coming year: Recruiting entirely in my home state of Texas!
Something not many people know about me: I'm a trivia nut. As an undergrad, I was a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and now I host weekly trivia in New York!

Eliza MacDonald
Current Job: Admission Counselor
Institution: Southern Methodist University
What I’m excited about for the coming year: Travel season! I know by the end of it I may be glad it’s over but it’s so excited to get back on the road and meet the next class. Their overall enthusiasm helps fuel mine.
Hidden talent/something not many people know about me: Well, I know the people in my office know, but I’m a classically trained singer, so I sing pretty much anything and everything. And I sing, all. The. Time. Also,  I have a one year old black cat named Leo who likes to sing me the song of his people a lot.

Abby Rosensweig
Current job: Associate Director of College Counseling
Institution: Fort Worth Country Day
Best book I’ve read lately: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I'll admit it, I ugly cried at the end.
What I’m excited about for the coming year: Honestly, the blog! It's excited to see this project move from the idea stage to realization and to have so much good information in store for you all over the coming year.
Something not many people know about me: I speak a little Bulgarian. Only about enough to order food from a menu and tell a taxi driver where I need to go, which is what I picked up while I was working at a high school in Sofia, Bulgaria.
