Take Time to Connect While You Are On the Go

It’s that time of the year again, colleagues: The time of Starbucks, late nights and jam-packed schedules. It’s travel season, and with the first TACRAO week just around the corner, it’s time to prepare to meet new students, new counselors and new friends.

We’ll all be on the go this fall, whether we’re hitting the road or not. But that won’t stop us from making this season memorable. We’ve created a special sign to help you do just that.

The #tacaconthego sign is a way for us to connect amidst the hectic days of the fall season. We encourage you to print out the sign and take it with you on the road as you reunite with old friends and meet some new ones. You may even have a funny travel story (or two, or five) you want to share with the world. Publish a photo of yourself and a friend and share that TACRAO tale with us all—even if the story is mildly embarrassing. In the spirit of the season, I’ll go first:

Last year was my first travel season, and I loved all the fun challenges that came with being on the road for weeks at a time. I met amazing colleagues from high school and colleges across Texas and beyond, I made some lifelong friends and I learned the ins and outs of travel prep.

One helpful tip: always create a travel list—a detailed rundown of everything you need that week or month—and put it in writing. A wise, experienced colleague shared this tip with me prior to the start of fall travel, and I ran through my mental list everything I’d need—without writing it down. The next day, as I drove to the first event to kick off two weeks on the go, I referenced that same mental list. Note cards? Check. Table banner? Check. Toothbrush? Check. Toothpaste? Not so much. Panic ensued when I realized that my new, fancy portable toothbrush was effectively useless without some good ‘ol fashioned Crest. I walked into the gymnasium, already planning to find the nearest grocery store as soon as the fair was over. But I didn’t need to: that same wise colleague was there, smiling ear to ear and holding a bottle of toothpaste.

“How’d you know?” I asked.

“I had a hunch,” he said. “And it was the one thing you didn’t mention on your list.”

This fall, I’ll take a photo with that colleague and the #TACAConthego sign, all while wearing a smile that would make the good people at Crest proud. And, most importantly, I’ll prepare for a busy fall of great work and great connections by making a list of everything I’ll need.
Take some time to connect to connect when you’re on the go this fall—and be sure to use the hashtag #TACAConthego as you chronicle the season with fun posts and stories. Oh, and be sure grab some toothpaste.

The TACAC member whose #TACAConthego post earns the most likes will win a prize from our TACAC store!
