The Admission and College Counseling Institute (ACCI) curriculum chairs are seeking faculty for ACCI 2019 to be held July 15th-18, 2019 at Baylor University. Faculty will assist the curriculum chairs in developing curriculum prior to ACCI. All faculty will participate in planning meetings via conference calls and will have a final walk through at Baylor on Sunday, July 14th. Faculty is needed for both the secondary and higher education tracks of ACCI.
Beverly Henry Wheeler has severed in the admission profession for 32 years. She is currently the Regional Director of Admission at Hendrix College in Conway Arkansas. Throughout her years in admission, she has severed at President of both TACAC and NACAC! Beverly has severed TACAC in many ways, and today you will learn why she chose to become an ACCI Faculty Member.
In July 2016 and 2017, Beverly had the opportunity to serve as Faculty at ACCI. When Beverly reflects on her experience as an ACCI Faculty Member, she first thinks of mentorship. She shared, “I always enjoy meeting new professionals and planting seeds of leadership, purpose and vision. ACCI is the fertile ground to plant those seeds through presentations, conversations and activities.”
As a leader in TACAC, Beverly is full of advice and wisdom. Beverly co-presented the admission process to the secondary school cohorts, participated in a career panel, and led a small group.
This experience helped Beverly grow as a professional. As the saying goes, “there are two sides to a coin”. In this case that is so true; as a participant many years ago, she met lifelong friends and mentors who guided her in this profession. She believes that becoming President of TACAC and NACAC is because of the guidance of leadership, purpose and vision that she received. The second half of the coin is now having the opportunity to encourage others to do the same.
Beverly’s advice for anyone considering to apply to be an ACCI Faculty Member? “The most important advice is to sow it forward. Yes, sow it forward. The seeds of leadership you sow now will bring forth amazing fruit in the future in those you have an opportunity to mentor.”
