Understanding & Recruiting the Rural Student:
Geographic gaps in post-secondary attainment among rural students and their urban and suburban peers have continued to widen. Recent news reports from the New York Times, InsideHigherEd, and National Public Radio (NPR) have shed light on the issues these students face when seeking a post-secondary credential. Some reports have even identified specific post-secondary institutions for neglecting school districts in rural areas. This session seeks to bring awareness about college access in rural areas throughout the State of Texas as well as provide expectations and ideas to organizations, including school districts and post secondary institutions, seeking to improve the college going rates of this specific population.
